Feel Good Monday (Belated Feel Good Friday)

February 13, 2012

Sorry for falling behind on my posting – I had a Feel Good Friday post all planned out, and then time got away from me and I was out and about all day and evening visiting friends on Friday, which was a wonderful treat. I have really missed seeing everyone I used to work with during my PhD, and it has been soooo wonderful catching up with a few of them in the past week. And in terms of the weekend, I don’t know where it went – they always seem to fly by. However, I had a nice long chat on Skype with my parents, my grandma and aunt, and one of my very best friends…so that brightened my Sunday. 🙂

This is going to be a slightly strange ‘Feel Good Friday’ post for two reasons. First of all, to state the obvious, it is Monday. And second of all, I am just sharing my recent good news and a couple of favorite songs.

Feel Good Career News – I get to start my new job a week from today! It took me months of applying to get this job, which I am very excited about, and now it has taken me two and a half months to get a start date after accepting the job. I haven’t wanted to say very much about my new job until I had a start date lined up, as I was terrified that something was still going to go wrong. Anyway, to say that I am thrilled to be starting in a week is an under-statement. I am so excited!

Feel Good House News – Ben and I have now found an area which we really like, and which we think we would be happy living and commuting to/from. We went to look around on Saturday, and the area is beautiful. It is right on the train line and also served by buses. And to top it off for me, there were two separate people riding horses right through the center of the village. It doesn’t get much more quaint and charming than that. Fingers crossed that the right property comes up at the right time. 🙂

Feel Good(?) Song – This is a recent discovery (Ben actually discovered it), which I really love. You may all already know about it, but the artist is called Gotye, and he is a Belgian-Australian musician. The video for this song is slightly strange, but I have to admit, even the video has grown on me. And it’s not the most up-beat song for a feel good post, but I just love the music and I have been singing it to myself most of yesterday and today. I hope you enjoy the song too!

Truly Feel Good Song – Like many people, I was sad to hear the news yesterday about Whitney Houston, especially since one of my very favorite songs in the world is ‘How Will I Know’. This has been my personal feel good song for many, many years. I first learned the song and fell in love with it when I was in high school choir, and we did a medley of songs for a concert which contained a short excerpt of ‘How Will I Know’. Then when I went to college (university), my housemates and I made it one of our two anthems. We used to crank this song up on the stereo and dance around whenever one of us had a bad day and needed a pick-me-up. We called this ‘Whitneying’ (yes, we made a verb out of it), and we even went through a phase of putting this on first thing in the morning to start our days off on the right foot. So, this is dedicated to my roommates and Whitney. I hope all of you take a few minutes to ‘Whitney’ to this song if you are reading this. 🙂

Anyway, I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend and that your week is off to a great start. 🙂

I love that you put on music. Anika danced around while we sang with Whitney. We enjoyed the other one too.
